Is it Apple? Did it come with a DVD burner? Apple provided iMovie and iDVD which is EVERYTHING you need EXCEPT the codecs for the outdated AVI format. Get that by downloading Perian, link below. Perian will enable your Apple programs to use AVI and FLV (Youtube) files. You don't have to download any of those other things. That is not to say those other apllications won't work. They may do the job as well, but why spend time learning some off-the-wall applications to duplicate the abilities you have in iMovie and iDVD?

Step 1: Download and install Perian. It simply provides the conversion software that works in the background. You don't ever need to do anything with it.

Step 2: Open iMovie, choose"New Project", and choose where to save the project. {a project has the movie file, plus any special effects files you add from iMovie that can be merged into the final DVD movie}. Go to File > Import. After you import the AVI file, move the thumbnail(s) to the bottom of the iMovie window to arrange them in the Clip Viewer. Add transitions or titles if you need them by following the iMovie Help.

Step 3: When done, click the iDVD button at the right to add chapter markers, if you need them.

Step 4: When done, click the "Create iDVD Project" button to launch iDVD. Use iDVD Help to learn how to add a menu and chapters.

Step 5: When done, click the burn button. You will get a message to insert a blank DVD. Use Verbatim brand if you have any trouble with other brands (big name is no guarantee when it comes to DVD quality).

If the iDVD can't burn your videos to dvd on mac, you can try another Mac DVD Creator First you'll need to connect your camcorder to your Mac, and then copy footage from the camcorder into iMovie, a process known as importing. iMovie makes importing easy. When you import video into an iMovie project, it automatically divides your video into individual clips, making it easy to edit.

Part 1. How to Import Video from a Camcorder to your Mac

Step 1: Connect camcorder to your Mac computer with cable (USB/Wifi)
Step 2: Select mode of camcorder such as PC/Computer mode
Step 3: iMovie will automatic open Import window
Step 4: If DVD Player automatic open. just quit DVD Player first
Step 5: So Now, you can review your video or select "Import All"(make sure your switch is set to "Automatic")
Step 6: If you select "Manual", you can import some clip to iMovie
Step 7: If you import from Tape based device (DV/HDV), iMovie will automatic revise tape and import all
Step 8: iMovie automatic create thumbnail video after complete import

Part 2. Tips:

iMovie automatically detects your camcorder
iMovie will automatically detect when you have a FireWire camcorder connected. If you see the message No Camera Attached, make sure your camera is turned on and properly plugged in to your computer via a FireWire cable and that your camcorder is set to VCR, VTR, or Play mode. You can also click the Connection Help button for more suggestions.

iMovie supports different video formats
When you create your project, choose the appropriate video format depending on your needs. For importing video from your camcorder, choose between DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i, and HDV 720i. For recording from your iSight, select iSight. If you will be copying MPEG-4 files from your PDA or phone, select MPEG-4.

Import directly to the iMovie timeline
You can import footage directly from your camcorder to the iMovie timeline rather than to the Clips pane. This is a quick and easy way to get your footage into your iMovie project. You can then edit right in the timeline. From the iMovie menu, choose Preferences, click Import, and then choose the option Place clips in Movie Timeline.

If you're importing video that is already edited
Instead of importing your video as separate clips, you can set iMovie to import your video as a single clip. This may be useful if you're importing a movie that you've already edited and you just want to change a small portion. From the iMovie menu, choose Preferences, click Import, and then deselect the "Start a new clip at each scene break" option. If you prefer, select "Limit scene length to" and set a limit for the number of minutes. This will ensure your imported files don't get too large, in case you'll be copying clips between iMovie projects.

What you need to make a high-definition video with iMovie
High definition video is quickly becoming the format you see broadcast on TV. An HD camcorder stores more pixels than a standard camcorder, letting you see more detail in your video footage. iMovie supports importing and editing video from HD camcorders (HDV 720p and 1080i), so you can make movies just like the pros-and it's a great way to archive your most precious life events in the highest resolution possible

Using video from an MPEG-4 camera
Many digital still cameras, PDAs, and mobile phones let you record short videos in the MPEG-4 format, a standard compression that is used to significantly reduce the file size of video. While iMovie doesn't know how to import video from these devices directly, as it does with FireWire devices, you can still use the MPEG-4 files once you've copied them to your Mac. Just drag them into the iMovie Clips pane using the Finder or import them using Import from the File menu.

Using video from your connected or built-in iSight camera
You can use your iSight camera to record video directly into your iMovie project. This means you can spontaneously add clips to your project while you're working on it. Just connect your iSight camera to the FireWire port of your Mac and you're ready to start recording. If you have more then one camcorder connected, such as an iSight and a camcorder,-or you have an iMac with a built-in iSight-choose iSight from the pop-up menu that appears when you switch to camera mode.

Monitor the amount of hard disk space remaining
Digital video clips use a large amount of hard disk space. For example, five minutes of DV footage uses approximately 1GB of space. The same amount of HD video can occupy between 2GB to 4GB, depending on the format and footage. To save hard disk space, import and edit your video in sections instead of trying to do so all at once. You can see how much space remains on your hard disk by using the monitor located in the lower-right corner of the iMovie window.

At last, if you wan to burn the videos from camcorder to dvd disc,I recommend DVD Creator for Mac to you.

What is TS, How to play TS files on Mac?

What is TS?
Transport stream(TS, TP, MPEG-TS, or M2T) is a communications protocol for audio, video, and data which is specified in MPEG-2 Part 1, Systems (ISO/IEC standard 13818-1). Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing. Use the DV port on the camera, a firewire cable (most likely 4-pin to 6-pin) and the firewire port on your computer. USB will not work.If the camcorder is hard drive or flash memory based, it will likely use a USB cable. You may need to install drivers (from jvc.com). Some hard drive or flash memory based JVC cameras have firewire too (in the docking station). If the camcorder is DVD based, put the DVD in the drawer loading optical DVD drive of your computer. Do not put a minidisc in a slot loading drive - ever. You will need to rip the minidisc DVD with something like HandBrake. You may also need ISOBuster is your computer's DVD drive cannot read the mini disc. Then, throw the camcorder away and replace it with a miniDV tape based or hard drive based or flash memory based camcorder - video quality from DVD based camcorders is bad, especially for editing. They compress too much. These DVD based camcorders should not be on the market. The manufacturers should recall them and you should get your money back.Since you did not tell us what computer you use: Windows has MovieMaker. Macintosh has iMovie. After editing, Windows burns DVDs using WinDVD. Macintosh uses iDVD. Burning video to a CD is not a good idea - they do not hold enough data. CDs can hold up to 800 meg. Single layer DVDs hold 4.7 gig and double layer DVDs hold 8.5 gig. If you want to play this video on a normal DVD player, yuo need to burn out to DVD files (.VOB) and the DVD burning program will take care of that for you.

How do you make a dvd from footage you took from a video camera?

Want you edit the footage?do you use a mac?
If so,you need a Mac DVD Burner software on your mac computer,
if it's a DVD camera, shouldn't be problem, you can easily make a dvd.
If it's a Mini DV camcorder
do the following:
1) Rewind video to begining
2) attach USB cable that came with camera to computer
3)open windows Movie Maker
4) click 'Capture' or 'import'
5) select file destination
6) select quality (2.1 mpbs or 3.1 mpbs ,which ever your comp has)
7)click START CAPTURE
8)click PLAY on the camera
9)when finished, click "STOP CAPTURE" then "FINISH"
10) then, put in a blank DVD to DVD BURNER and open. There are many converters for windows but when you want to convert avi to dvd on Mac system, things become more complicated.
There are a very few companies making dvd burning software for mac and many of so called mac dvd burners don't work perfectly. Now you have several avi files you have either downloaded off the Internet or collected from other sources and you want to burn avi files to dvd on mac and this is where the problem starts. I have a perfect software for you but first here is what you should look for in a avi to dvd converter for Mac :-
1. The software should be very user friendly and easily understandable.
2. The error handling should be perfect. I've seen a few avi to dvd converters for mac displaying error message "No Error Occurred". You'd better stay away from such dvd converters.
3. Customer support should be fast enough to respond in case of any problems
4. Speed while burning avi files to a dvd on mac should be good enough.
5. A trial version should be available for anyone who want to try the software.
6. The DVDs which you burn using the software should play in normal DVD players, not only on a mac system.
After fiddling with many mac avi to dvd burners and wasting several DVDs, I finally selected DVD Creator for Mac.
